Oyo/Osun NCS Command generates N7.2billion in 6months

The Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Mr. Temitope Ogunkua on Wednesday said the command generated N7.2billion revenue between January to June this year.
Mr Ogunkua who stated this while briefing journalists on the activities of the command at its Ibadan headquarters also alerted of smuggling of expired rice into the country by some criminal elements.
He declared that during the period, a total of 948 vehicles paid duty of N156.2million while the command is looking forward to unprecedented performance in the second half of the year.
“The Oyo/Osun command generated a total of Seven billion, two hundred and forty five million, six hundred and eight thousand, five hundred and eighty seven naira, sixty nine kobo. This when compared to a revenue figure of seven billion, five hundred and ninth one million, five hundred and eleven thousand, five hundred and seventy seven naira fifty kobo made within the same period in 2015,” he said.
Speaking on the latest seizures by the command, Mr Ogunkua declared that a total of 342 50kg bags of rice loaded in 23 vehicles with the duty paid value of N2.9million were seized by the command within its area of coverage.
The Area Controller added that among the seized smuggled rice were the expired rice loaded in one used DAF truck warning that Nigerians should be cautious of the rice they are purchasing as some of the expired rice may have been smuggled into the country for sale.
Speaking further, Mr Ogunkua hinted that 25 assorted fairly used vehicles including a bullet proof Toyota land cruiser jeep were seized from smugglers by men of the Oyo/Osun NCS command with most of the vehicles laden with imported foreign rice and other general goods.
The Area Controller stressed that the command will re-strategise with various diversification in intelligence gathering and utilization, application of diplomacy in anti-smuggling especially in volatile border areas etc will enable the command to consistently build on both revenue and anti-smuggling feats”.
