The Chief Executive Officer of KAYROM LEE GYM, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde on Wednesday said a devout Muslim must engage in Sporting activities as it is a vehicle for the promotion of Islam.
Ambassador Ayinde stated this while delivering the 2019 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo state Ramadan lecture held at the Lekan Salami, stadium, Ibadan.
The KAYROM LEE GYM CEO pointed out that “the way a Muslim starts the day by waking up shows the sportman in him, ” saying,.” how a Muslim prays, that is liturgy, shows the sportsman in him”.
Ambassador Ayinde while stressing the importance of Sports to Islam as a religion, said, ” I believe you must have understood that a lazy, weak, sluggish, fearful person cannot practice Islam. It is a religion that you must be willing and with the zeal to worship”.
“You need to be strong, confident, smart, active, enterprising , intelligent and fill of wisdom. Therefore, as a true worshipper, a devout Muslim, you must engage in Sporting activities. The excess fat must be burnt or convert to muscle”, she said.
She stressed that some people renounced Islam because they were told that they had no future in their kind of sport because of their religious inclination and that to be called a Muslim merely because you have as association with islam does not make you a devout Muslim.
“The kind of sport you engage in can allow for the promotion of Islam if you are ready to released it or use it as a vehicle, it is possible to make a vehicle of that sport, the promotion, upgrade, elevator, advancement, rise, preferment in Islam, therefore, it must be use for positive purpose of promoting Islam by making it the needed vehicle.”
Ambassador Ayinde said “Sport by way of Academy is a vehicle for promoting Islam,” ,saying, ” catch them young, train them, develop their talents and instill discipline and put the fear of Allah in them”.
“Al- hamudulilahi, we are in the month of Ramadan. It is the month of purification and forgiveness of sin. We are in the world of Sports for contests or games in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other. We do not need to introduce politics which breeds enmity into the world of Sports”.
The Ramadan lecture was attended by the Chairman of the Oyo State Chapter of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Mr. Niyi Alebiosu, Ex Sport Editor Nigeria Tribune, Ade Somefun, General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Gboyega Makinde, 3SC board Chairman, Mr. Gbolagade Busari, Assistance Director of News NTA, and Mr. Femi Johnson among others.
