Oyo/Osun Customs Command Generates N17.5bn, Makes 115 Seizures In 2017 – Area Controller

The newly posted Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Christopher Orji Odibu on Thursday said the command generated N17.6 billion in 2017.

Comptroller Odibu who made this known while briefing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters’ in Ibadan disclosed that the command also made a total of 115 seizures during the same period.

According to the Oyo/Osun Area Controller, the N17.5billion generated by the command represent 85.3 percent of the command’s target and that the 115 seizures made by command were with the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Two hundred and fifteen million, five hundred and eighty eight thousand, five hundred and twenty eight naira, sixty three kobo (N215,588,528.63K).

“Looking back on the revenue generation last year 2017, the command generated the total of seventeen billon, six hundred and three million, three hundred and fifty nine thousand, seventy three naira, four kobo (N 17, 603, 359, 073.4k)  which represents 85.3% of the total target, meanwhile the command made a total of one and and fifteen with the duty paid value of two hundred and fifteen million, five hundred and eighty eight thousand, five hundred and twenty eight naira, sixty three kobo (N215,588,528.63k. This year, the command is working harder to surpass the previous year revenue generated” he said.

Speaking on the recent achievements of the Oyo/Osun  NCS command, Mr Odibu hinted that the command between January 17 when he resumed as the Area Controller of Oyo/Osun NCS command till date, the command seized 375 50kg bags of rice, 600bags of fertilizer, 271 bales of second hand clothes, 60 (25litres) kegs of vegetable oil, two trucks, 43 sacks of used shoes and six Tomunbo csrs.

Mr Odibu however lamented that “it is very unfortunate and disturbing that despite the wide awareness on the dire consequences of smuggling activities on economic growth and development, some citizens still find joy in perpetrating this evil act only for their gains”.

” Smuggling poise a high threat to both the economy and this is why those who engage in it are considered economic saboteurs . They are the destroyer of the country’s economy “.
