Leaders and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Unity Forum caucus on Friday alerted that the party is presently in comatose and needs the immediate attention of President Muhammadu Buhari, Chief Odigie Oyegun and Asiwaju Bola Tinibu for rescue.
The APC leaders and members raised the alarm at a Special meeting of the Forum themed ” Making 2018 APC Congress work for Peace, Unity, and Victory in 2019 election. held at Samonda area of Ibadan
According to the APC leaders, for the party to be relevant again and win any election in Oyo state, the on going alleged impunity in the party should be looked into by the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Chairman Chief Odigie Oyekun and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The APC leaders alleged that the party is now been run as a one man show affair as clearly demonstrated in the recent alleged hand picking of non APC members as candidates for the May 12 local government elections in the state.
Some of the speakers at the Special .meeting said majority of the said APC candidates for the local government election were not known in the local government areas where they were billed to contest the election.
Former Oyo state Teaching Service (TESCOM) boss and Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi while speaking disclosed that there is a serous factional crisis rocking APC in Oyo state which deserves urgent attention if the party is to continue ruling the state.
Alhaji Gbadamosi declare that the issue of the forthcoming local government election in Oyo state could best be described as a time bomb waiting to explode in the party considering the controversy surrounding selection of the APC candidates for the election
Alhaji Gbadamosi stressed that the purpose of the meeting was to find ways to ensure that the interest of the people who are the owners of the party is protected, saying, “we don’t want to go back, the party has been fictionalise into groups, what we want to do is to arrange the party to move forward so that God will crown our efforts.’
“There is a serous crisis, when there is crisis, we need to find solutions. But I believe God will bail us out. There is a time bomb waiting to explode. The local government election, the party must not go down. Are you saying there is no crisis, aspirants are here, Minister is represented, Senators are represented, you should do what you can do to bind the party together” he said.
Speaking, APC Deputy Chairman in Oyo state, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi callef on the national leaders of the party to quickly wade into the crisis rocking APC in the state, adding that most of the candidates picked for the forthcoming local government election in the state were not members of the party, saying that the party has been polarised due to the staged-managed congress held in an hotel where some unknown members were picked as candidates.
“This has polarised the party, even myself as Deputy Chairman, I don’t have a single candidate. I am using my local government, Akinyele as a case study, the people who did not vote for the party, who worked for another party in 2015, who decamped and vote for another party in 2015 were the ones picked as candidates. Is that person fit to contest? Don’t you see that failure has started? That is why we must avoid mistakes”.
Member House of Representatives, Honourable Adedapo Lam Adesina lamented the present situation in Oyo APC, saying,the running of the party in the state has become ” a one man affair” and that there is the need for the party’s leaders at the National level to wade into it and rescue APC in Oyo state.
Honourable Adesina who said there was no plan by him to dump APC for another party emphasized that the real progressives in the Oyo APC are members of the Unity Forum adding that he will continue to associate with them.
The APC Special meeting was attended by prominent APC stakeholders as well as some of the party’s governorship aspirants including Minister of Communications Barrister Adebayo Shittu who was represented; Deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Moses Adeyemo who was also represented; former Commissioner for Commerce and Cooperatives and a governorship aspirant Dr. Kola Balogun; former Chief of Staff in the state, Professor Adeolu Akande; House of Representatives member Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina; former Secretary to the state Government, Dr. Busari Adebisi and former Chairman, Ibadan North West Local Government, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Senator Adesoji Akanbi who was represented; former Minority leader, Hon. Rafiu Adekunle, Ex-Chairman Parliamentary caucus, Hon. Fatai Salam, former Chairmen and other chieftains of the party lamented that they were left with no option than to cry out so as to save the party.
