Fortune has smiled on a jobless father of orphaned set of twin at the Red Cross Orphanage Home in Lagos, as the State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni pledged to provide him a commercial bus as a means of livelihood.
The Commissioner of Police made the promise during a visit to the Orphanage Home last week, as part of the command’s initiative at identifying with motherless babies homes.
Owoseni, whose heart bled at the bed side of the less than a year old twins, when told that their mother died during their birth and that their father is jobless, said the man must be assisted in order to cater for the children.
Informed that the jobless father of the twin, identified simply as Azeez was passionate about the wellbeing of the children, Owoseni immediately asked about his whereabout and directed the matron of the home, Mrs. Juliana Obanife to provide him details and bring him to his office.

His words, “Oh goodness, their mother died of childbirth! What about their father?  You can hear that they say the man is jobless and comes all the way from Ilorin to look at them. We need to assist him so that he can cater for the children. We can raise money for him to buy a bus, may be a Faragon bus to be doing kabukabu. Find out if he has a driver’s licence and get back to me”.
On his visit to the home, the Police boss said he was there to associate with the orphans and to convey the goodwill message of the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase and that of the Police Force, especially the Lagos Command to them.
Noting that the festive period was a season where everybody celebrates, Owoseni emphasised that it behoves on the Command to remember the orphanage and celebrate with them.
“Nigeria Police is a friend in need and indeed, and we have to follow the leadership style of the IGP. In as much as we fight crime, we should show passion to the community that we serve and look at their needs. We have seen what were shown to us as some of their needs and we have given our token”, the Police Commissioner added.
He therefore implored wealthy Nigerians to remember the less privileged by extending the hands of love to them in providing for their needs.
Owoseni, who took time to play with the kids who rendered melodious hymns to the admiration of all, donated bags of rice, cartons of Dano milk products, Cway water and dispensers, cartons of bournvita and cartons of diapers to the home.
In her welcome speech earlier, the Acting Branch Administrator
Mrs. Gloria Chekwe described the visit of the Police Commissioner as a blessing to the home, disclosing that Owoseni was the first Police boss to visit the home since it was established.

Chekwe informed that the mother of the twin died during their birth, adding that they were brought to the home by their father, who formerly resided at Badia, a suburb of Lagos but now in Ilorin Kwara state in search of job.
She disclosed that the Red Cross Society Orphanage Home was the first orphanage home in Nigeria, adding that it caters for abandoned and motherless babies who are later adopted as foster children.
Chekwe added that its Nursery/Primary School established for indigent children now has over 1000 pupils.
