One Dead, Two Rescued As Boat Capsizes In Lagos

A passenger has reportedly died, while two others were rescued in a boat mishap that occurred at the weekend in Lagos.
The deceased, along with another passenger were said to have boarded the speed boat with an inscription ” OMOMUMMY MARINE” from Ijegun heading towards Ibasa in the riverine area of Ojo Local Government Council of the State.
Our correspondent gathered that the boat was mounted with 70 horse power Yamaha engine, operated by one Muri Jimoh.
It was learnt that the boat was conventional conveying roofing material at the time of the mishap, which happened at about 12noon on 15th June 2019.
According to report, the boat capsized  at Ibasa waterfront due to heavy wave and the passengers overboarded and got drowned. 
The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the report in a release in Sunday, said two of the victims were rescued alive by a team of Marine Policemen patrolling the waterways.
 
He disclosed that one of the passengers identified simply as Rasaki aged 32years old is still missing.
Elkana added that search and rescue operation is ongoing with the view to recover the body.
” On 15th June, 2019 at about 12.00noon, a speed Boat with inscription ‘OMOMUMMY MARINE’ mounted with 70HP Yamaha engine, operated by one Muri Jimoh ‘m’, with two passengers on board, capsized  at Ibasa waterfront due to heavy wave, while conveying roofing materials from Ijegun to Ibasa.
Consequently, the victims overboarded and got drowned. However, two of the victims were rescued alive by a team of Marine Policemen patrolling the waterways. While, one Rasaki ‘m’ 32years old is still missing.
 Meanwhile, search and rescue operation is ongoing”, the release stated.
