Proprietor of FC Ebedei of Sagamu, Ogun State, Churchill Oliseh has accused various club managements in the country of not doing enough to make profit but rather depending solely on government patronage for survival.
Delivering a paper at the just concluded ‘Football Sunday’ of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, he hinted that most clubs in the country are richer than many of their counterparts in Europe considering the amount of subvention they get from government and wondered why such clubs could not make profit from such huge investment.
“It is worrisome that most club sides in the country do not think of profit making simply because they get subvention from various state Governors who do not care to ask them questions on what they do with such monies.
“Most of the clubs in Nigeria are richer than their counterparts in Europe when one considers the amount of money they get from their state government but because nobody ask them questions, they take it as part of their national cake,” he lamented.
The FIFA licensed agent noted that there is the need for clubs to be quoted on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange where shareholders who invested their money will ask questions on how these monies are spent thereby forcing the clubs to think of profit making.
He then enjoined the various state governors to always audit the accounts of their clubs and any person found wanton at the end of the day should be prosecuted and the club disbanded if they are not making profit.
