OGUN SPEAKER DENIES SCAM ALLEGATION

THE Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Ishola Adekunbi has denied allegation of financial scam involving procurement of 28 official cars for members of the State House of Assembly.
He said he was ready to answer questions relating to the allegation, noting that he was not worried about the invitation by the ICPC.
The speaker who spoke on Monday through his Special Assistant on Media, Akinola Waheed said his invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) was part of routine exercise by the commission.
He added the procurement of the cars was in line with due process and sincerity of purpose, stressing “the invitation of the speaker, Ogun state House of Assembly by the ICPC is part of the routine exercise by the agency and that is not tantamount to conviction.
He further said “the speaker is not worried as the procurement was in line with due process and done with sincerity of purpose”.
Adekunbi however appealed for calm, saying he was convinced of coming out of the investigation clean at the end of it all.
“I am is ready to give answer to questions bordering on the petition by a faceless petitioner. We appeal for calm as we remain on top of the situation and remain convinced of our coming out clean at the end of it all,” he said.
It would be recalled that the Speaker alongside other top official of the Assembly were summoned by the ICPC to answer questions relating to the procurement of 28 Toyota Avensis cars for the honorable members.
Recalling also, the Speaker alongside seven others including the clerk of the House, Muyiwa Adenopo were to appear before the Commission’s head of investigations yesterday (Monday) on the alleged contract inflation of the cars which was awarded at the rate of six million Naira each.
