Ogun Signs MoU For 276mw Power Generation

In its continued efforts towards tackling the epileptic power supply, the Ogun State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with eight Independent Power Providers (IPPs) to generate and distribute power to residents of the state.    

The project, tagged “Light-Up Ogun”, will generate a total of 276 Mega Watts of electricity from gas, solar, waste to energy and joule box technology at the cost of $476,616,249.65m and is expected to be ready in 18 months.     

Speaking during the signing of the Memorandum at his office in Abeokuta, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, said it was another bold step by the present administration to further address the huge infrastructural deficit it inherited  from the past administration

The SSG, charged the partners to take the project with all seriousness it deserves just as he expressed optimism that, when completed, it would improve the lives and well being of the people.

In his remark, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olumide Ayeni, disclosed that government had allocated 16 hectares of land for the IPPs, as part of its commitment towards the success of the project, saying when completed, would improve the socio-economic activities of the state.

Speaking earlier, Consultant to the Governor on Energy, Chief Taiwo Fagbemi, hinted that the project, conceived in 2014, was being executed with the co-operation and assistance of various stakeholders, including the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), adding that it would not only generate electricity, but also provide employment for the teeming youth in the state.        

In his contribution, Deputy Managing Director, IBEDC, Engr. John Ayodele, commended the initiative, noting that it would complement the efforts of his company, in ending the perennial epileptic power supply in the country, pledging to render necessary assistance required for the project to succeed.
