Obi tasks churches on responsibilities

GOVERNOR Peter Obi has tasked the Church to take the responsibility of redirecting the political class to check its excesses.
Governor Obi was speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Executive Committee meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria at the Women Development Centre, Awka.
The governor said there should be functional partnership between the government and the church to re-launch the country on the path of sustainable development.
He explained that while the government should concentrate on policy formation and supervision, the church should assist in execution of projects and programmes.
Governor Obi urged the church to champion the fight against criminality in the country and help to discourage unbridled acquisition of material wealth by few individuals at the expense of the masses.
The governor charged Nigerians to speak out against the use of violence to pursue individual group interest while calling for a launching of fund to support Christians affected by the Boko Haram violence in the North.
The National President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Orisejafor commended Governor Obi’s sense of patriotism humility and team spirit, noting that apart from efforts at reinventing the part to functional growth of the polity, the Governor has restored power to the people and has maintained unity, equity and fairness in the distribution of amenities.
Pastor Oritsejafor, who condemned the continuous killings of Christians in the North said that CAN was considering criminal charges against the Boko Haram for crimes against Christians at the International Criminal Court.
He urged Southern governors to prevail on Northern governors to take more proactive measures to protect residents of their states.
The South-East Zonal Chairman of CAN and Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, thanked Governor Obi, for supporting the hosting of the meeting in the state.
In his address the State Chairman of CAN, Bishop Ephraim Ndife, said the governor was a gift to the state who had made a difference in governance by repositioning all sectors in the state and thanked him for granting all their request in hosting the meeting.
