A Chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) in Oyo State , Alhaji Saheed Tijani aka ‘Omo Olomo’ is now in police net in Ibadan for allegedly raping a 28 year old housewife identified as Abosede.
According to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Leye Oyebade, the 28year old woman was allegedly abducted by the suspect who is the Vice-Chairman of Gbagi NURTW branch and his cohorts while returning home from work on Monday, April 4, 2016 around 9 pm.
The Police Commissioner while parading the NURTW chieftain and other suspects on Friday, said the woman was threatened with knife forcing her to surrender to the suspects after shouting for help with no one coming to her rescue.
“Having successfully threatened her into submission, she was abducted in the most brazen, commando-like manner and forcibly taken to a Hotel in the Sango area of the state, where she was drugged and subsequently mercilessly raped till the next day. Soon, the suspect and his accomplice went underground to evade arrest” he said.
Mr Oyebade added that “consequent upon the report made to the Police, the Anti- Kidnapping Squad of the command commenced manhunt for the suspects. After several days of diligent investigation, the rapist was arrested in his hideout somewhere in Ibadan. The suspect has since confessed to the crime”.
The Commissioner stated that Police investigation revealed that the NURTW chieftain until his arrest was a pain in the neck of innocent citizens especially females, some of whom he often raped.
”The suspect’s illicit sexual escapade was known to many in Iwo road area, but victims could not report due to stigmatization and fear of attack by the suspect who was dreaded. This has also earned him suspension from the union on many occasions”
However, the arrested NURTW Chieftain told journalists that he has sexual intercourse with the victim based on agreement between them, saying, “we are friends and we have been having an affair together.
“I did not rape her, she agreed to it and I do give her money whenever we have an affair. Am surprised with this allegation she leveled against me”.
Speaking, the 28 year old woman told journalists that she has never met the NURTW chieftain before in her life not to talk about being friend with him, saying, “he raped me and warned me not to report him to anybody or else I will be killed, but I summoned courage and reported him to the police. I have two kids now and my husband has chased me out of the house due to this incidence”.
