The National Sports Commission (NSC) will collaborate with sports federations, corporate organizations, public spirited individuals and government at all levels in ensuring the constant discovery of talented sportsmen and women from the grassroots.
Director-General NSC, Alhassan Saleh Yakmut expressed this in a welcome address at the opening ceremony of the maiden edition, National Open Handball Tournament, at the indoor sports hall, Murtala Square Kaduna on Monday.
According to him, the NSC sincerely appreciates the contribution of the sponsors of the tournament; Mega Handball Veterans, for taking up the responsibility of sponsoring the event.
“The NSC will always collaborate with all that are out to sponsor tournaments like this. We are committed to developing multiple sports in the country, and will not rest, until same is achieved,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that the tournament is providing a conducive environment for young sportsmen and women to express themselves.
“I would sincerely commend the sponsors for this innovation as well as the Kaduna State Government for agreeing to host this tournament,” he added.
In his remarks, Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el Rufai said that Kaduna was honoured to once again host the nation. He explained that the choice of Kaduna was no fluke, in view of the availability of state-of-the-art sporting facilities that the state boasts of.
“We welcome you to Kaduna and assure you that you will be safe throughout your stay in the state. Let me add that you will not regret coming to Kaduna because our people are welcoming and hospitable,” he added.
