The Alliance for Democracy (AD) on Monday vowed not to allow any group of people wishing to join the patty in Oyo State hijack its existing structures.
AD in a ten-point communique issued at the end of its state meeting signed by its Oyo State chairman, Chief Michael Akinropo and Secretary, Mr. Wale Adebayo declared that as at present, it is still considering and consulting with relevant stakeholders on if or not to participate in the May 12 local government elections in the state.
According to the party, in as much as its doors are still open to any group or individual wishing to join the party, there will be no room for such group or individuals to “come and hijack the party structure ahead of the 2019 general election’.
AD further emphasized after the meeting between the state executive council members and the chairmen and secretaries from the 33 local government areas in the state that it has not joined or merged with any other political party in the state.
“The party as at this date has four aspirants in the state and that our doors are still open for more interested members to declare their intention. The party is also open to any willing and interested members to join its fold as AD still retains our identity as a leading political party in Nigeria. The party is aware that some prominent politicians are planning to defect to the AD from the ruling and other parties. While AD will appreciate their intention to join its fold, we must state clearly that the existing structure of the party remain intact.” it said.
“We want to state that it will be impossible to dissolve the existing executive and replace same with caretaker commuter against the constitutional provision of AD.,” it added.
