Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Chief Jide Ajeigbe on Saturday vowed that there will be no going back in the conduct of the next Saturday (May 12) local government election in Oyo state.
Chief Ajeigbe stated this while featuring on a Fresh FM live programme “South West Political Headquarters” monitored in Ibadan by the New Nigerian.
The OYSIEC Chairman declined that as at present, the Commission was yet to be aware of any Court order stopping the planned May 12, local government election in Oyo state and as such there was no basis for the Commission to act on “mere news”.
” I am yet to be served with the court order or summon that you people are talking about. Up till this moment, it is news to me.. I am not aware, , no ruling or injunction has been served on my office. I cannot act on something I saw on the pages of newspapers ” he said.
Chief Agbaje stressed that all his actions so far are in line with the laws establishing the electoral mission and that part of the laws made it clear that no court order, injunction or ruling cannot prevent OYSIEC from conducting local government election in the state..
Speaking on the Commission’s preparedness for the May 12, poll, the OYSIEC Chairman disclosed that the Commission is fully ready for the election and that he has been ” very very fair and open to all on the planned poll.”
Chief Agbaje pointed out that electoral officers and others needed for the election have been trained accordingly while adequate security arrangements are in place for the poll.
He added that the election will hold between 8am till 3pm during which the eligible voters are to cast their votes manually while movement will be restricted between 7am to 3pm.
