The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna command on Wednesday laments the attitude of Nigerians towards the use of drivers license, saying over 510 licenses are lying fallow in the Command’s office.
Sector Commander, FRSC, Kaduna Command, Francis Udoma, ‎stated this at a pre-press briefing for the upcoming sensitisation rally and lecture to create awareness on the activities of Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna Chapter.
Udoma said “We have 510 unclaimed licenses ‎in our office and the owners are not showing concern to come and collect them.
“Majority of Car owners don’t have license and most of the car owners are using fairly used tyres that have since expired. ‎Such car owners used the expired tyres of up to ten years, ideally any tyre that has reached four years of its production is supposed to be changed.”
He placed more emphasis on acquisition of skills and knowledge in driving which he said is the only panacea that protects against road accidents.
On his part, General Manager, KASTELEA, Colonel Ahmed Zubairu (rtd‎), emphasised that the live of every vehicle driver is in his hands, hence need to ensure their vehicles are alright before putting them on the road.
The KASTELEA boss observed that as a new born agency, there is the need for the media to guide KASTELEA officials against possible mistakes they may commit in order to curtail it.
He noted that ‎without the media it will be difficult for effective enforcement of traffic laws in the state hence the partnership with the NUJ, adding “this would go a long way in sensitizing members of the general public in the state to knowing our activities.
‎”We are out to ensure orderliness, not to force people, the public should not see us as their enemy, rather they should see us as partners in progress.”
In his remarks, Chairman, Kaduna Council of NUJ, Comrade Garba Mohammad, explained that the objective of the briefing was to create awareness for the Saturday road walk in support of the activities of KASTELEA Operations in the State.
He said the event which was organised for officials KASTELEA will end with a lecture on Anti-Corruption orientation to further educate them on the temptation of corrupt tendencies in the course of their duties.
