Nigeria and Turkey have agreed to partner in the area of defence and security for the progress and development of the two countries.
The decision was reached during a bilateral meeting between the Nigerian Defence minister, Mansur Dan-Ali and his Turkish counterpart, Mr Nurattin Canikli held at the ministry of National Defence, Ankara, Turkey.
The visits which was part of the President Buhari visit to Turkey for D – 8 meeting of three memoranda of understanding, MoU, on military cooperation agreement, military training cooperation and Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement.
When ratified by the Parliament of the two countries, the agreement would enable the training of personnel in both countries’ military institutions and joint military exercises.
The Nigeria Defence minister urged the Turkish government to support the present administration’s efforts in promoting global peace and security.
Responding, Mr Canikli commended Nigeria for containing the Boko Haram insurgency and called for closer cooperation with Nigeria which shares a lot of similarities with Turkey.
