Niger Partners FG To Complete 21 Years Old Zungeru-Wushishi Water Supply Project

Twenty one years after it was initiated, the Zungeru-Wushishi Water Supply Project is now to be resuscitated to boost water supply to the area.
The project has been comatosed since 1998 when it was first designed and awarded by the Niger state government to Messrs Messiah Arms Services Ltd at the cost of N889,116,973.45k.
The project is now to cost N8 Billion with the Niger state government paying N1.6 Billion while the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources is to cough out N7.4 Billion for the water supply project.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello while speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) with the Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Suleiman Adamu, noted with pride that the water supply project for Zungeru and Wushishi would soon see the light of day.
He said the collaboration with the federal government to ensure the execution of the project was prompted by the desire to ensure portable water sources for people at the grassroots.
The governor said water supply was a crucial service which his administration would not toy with. He stressed that everything possible was being done to guarantee safe water sources for all citizens across the state.
The Minister of Water Resources, had in his remarks, applauded the governor’s commitment to resuscitate the stalled water supply project which was abandoned by successive regimes in the state.
He said in 2016, the design of the project was rejigged to accommodate more areas and scope. He commended the new drive to have the project take off the ground by the present administration in the state.
The Minister said the Memorandum of Understanding with his ministry for the completion of the Zungeru-Wushishi water supply scheme was in line with the present administration’s determination to ensure good water sources as a precursor for good public health.
Engr. Suleiman Adamu said with the involvement of his ministry in the water supply project, following the signing of the MoU, the project would receive due diligence for its completion and eventual fruition.
