Niger State Government has acquired large expanse land in Wushishi Council Area of the state for a multi million Naira Ricemill project which would be run in partnership with Dangote Group of Companies.
On completion, the mill would be the largest Ricemill in Africa according to government information.
Already, hundreds of land owners whose farmlands were acquired, have been paid compensation by the Niger state government.
Commissioner of Lands and Housing, Isah Kanko disclosed that the state government has commenced payments for the lands taken over for the multi million naira project.
lsah Kanko explained that the ricemill is projected to lead to various economic value chains gains once it comes on stream.
He explained that the state government went into the partnership with the Dangote Group of companies because of its profitability and the end result for the immediate communities and the state government as well as the country as a whole.
Chief of Wushishi, Ibrahim Abubakar expressed happiness over the sitting of the project in his domain and appealed to his subjects to support the state government’s determination to turn around the lives of peasant rice farmers in the area.
Wushishi has large stretch of arable land suitable for rice cultivation and has been known as a rice producing area over time.
Already, site engineers from the Dangote Group of companies have mobilised to the site as work commenced for the multi million naira giant Ricemill project.
