A new leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) in Niger State has emerged following the expiration of the four-year tenure of the outgoing executives and the election of a new one.
The delegates conference of the Congress was held on Thursday April 25, 2019 in Minna, the Niger State capital, where comrade Yakuba Garba, from the state’s Medical and Health Workers’ Union emerged the new helmsman of the NLC in the state in a keenly contested election.
Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello in his message at the delegates conference, applauded what he called a cordial relationship between the state government, the NLC and the working class citizens in the state.
Governor Sani Bello said the state had in the last four years experienced a robustly fruitful industrial harmony due largely because of the relationship between organized labour and the state government.
Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Isa Musa Kanko, governor Sani Bello said any government that desires to make reasonable impact on its citizens, must curry the friendship and understanding of the working class and their umbrella trade body.
He attributed the progress records in the relationship between the government and the labour to the maturity and peaceful disposition of the outgoing leadership of the NLC in the state.
Head of Service in the state, Yabagi Alhaji Sule commended the symbiotic relationship between the organized labour and the state government and charged the new incoming labour chieftains to build on the existing cordial relationship between the state and the labour.
National President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waba similarly praised the leadership of the NLC in the state for holding forth in the face of difficulties in government/Labour interfaces.
Waba was represented at the delegates conference by the National Auditor of NLC, Comrade Babatunde Goke. He charged the working class in the state to remain united and formidable at all times.
He commended the outgoing leadership of the NLC in the state just as he praised the past Exco members for their unity in purpose for the good of the organized labour in the state.
Yahaya Ndako Idris, the immediate past Chairman of the NLC in the state, praised his team of executives for a smooth tenure and for all the understanding and cooperation. He also commended the entire workers in the state for their support and prayers which he noted were crucial for the successes recorded by the NLC in the state in the last four years.
The NLC’s new leader, Yakubu Garba pledged to lead the NLC in the state to greater heights and strive to improve the lots of all members of the NLC in the state.
He sought for the cooperation of all and sundry in the working class for the task ahead.
Those elected include three Vice Chairmen 1, 2 and 3. While Ibrahim Umar was elected Treasurer and Lafene Isah was elected Auditor respectively.
