Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) gubernatorial aspirant in Niger State, Ahmed Musa Ibeto has said that though he remains modest and non flippant, he is more imminently qualified to fly the party’s flag in the state’s governorship election next year than any of the aspirants on the bloc.
There are five contestants on the umbrella of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state who are going in for the party’s sole ticket to carry the PDP’s flag in the state’s governorship election next year.
Ibeto has over thirty three years of unchequared experience in party politics, local government administration, statecraft and foreign mission.
He was for several years the protem secretary of the now rested United Nigerian Peoples Party, the pioneer secretary of the defunct National Republican Convention, (NRC), secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP) which metamorphosed into APC.
He was a federal lawmaker at the National Assembly where he represented the Magama/Rijau federal constituency and later became deputy governor to Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
He was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa by the Buhari’s administration but quit the job last July to return home to contest the 2019 governorship race against the incumbent governor, Abubakar Sani Bello of the APC.
Ambassador Ibeto told PDP stakeholders in Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro local government area and those from Munya council area of Niger state that he secumbed to clarion calls by a cross section of citizens in the state to ditch his high profile ambassadorial job to return home on rescue mission based on increasing plea from stakeholders.
While addressing PDP members including elders, executive members and youths at the PDP Secretariat in Kuta and at Sarkin Pawa, Ibeto concurred that Niger state has never had it this bad than in the last three and half years under the present APC led government.
He appealed to the party’s stakeholders in the area to support his gubernatorial ambition by reposing their confidence in him to clinch the sole ticket of the party to fly it’s flag as candidate in next year’s governorship election in the state.
Ibeto had toured the twenty five council areas in the state meeting with party executives, delegates and stakeholders, appealing to them to support his mission to rescue the state from the hands of APC led government.
He is largely seen as the aspirant with the political clout, charisma and carriage to stand the governing All Progressive Congress having been part of the APC where he ‘led it into massive victory at the 2015 general elections in the state.
Ibeto had in the twilight of the, 2015 general elections, decamped from the PDP following disaffection, internal wrangling which forced him out to pitch tent with the APC then.
But in July this year, Ibeto ditched the APC and returned to his former party. He is one of the five aspirants seeking for the mandates of the party’s delegates at next Sunday crucial gubernatorial primary election.
Even though the odds appear to favour Ibeto’s chances, Ibeto insisted that delegates the primary election are kingmakers whose mandates would make the task ahead much easier.
He is hopeful of victory as he completed his outreach visits to all the PDP’s local government secretariats across the council areas in the state.
Ibeto begged the delegates to the election to be mindful of their individual and collective task to shun money inducement saying the state was in dire need to get out of the woods it had found itself.
