Niger State Government has applauded the resolution of the National Council of States in upholding the Appointment of Ibrahim Kpotun Idris as substantive Inspector General of Police, (IGP).
Welcoming the endorsement, it described the decision as very deserving for Idris and heartwarming to Niger State. Idris is the first Police officer from the state to attain such top echelon of the Police Force.
Though the new boss is assuming the position in Nigeria’s trying times, the state government nonetheless expressed optimism that the IGP has the character of a top Cop to discharge his calling diligently.
In a statement issued by the state government, it urged Idris to apply his expansive job experience of over two decades in the Police Force to bring to bear on his new office as the number one Police Officer in the country.
The statement signed by the Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, urged the IGP to consider his confirmation by the National Council of States as a national mandate to reposition the country’s Police Force for greater efficiency in tackling the increasing security challenges across the country.

The state government expresed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for resposing such confidence in Kpotun and placing on his shoulders the mantle to lead the country’s Police Force, and assured that the new IGP would not let the country down.

The statement described Kpotun as an astute illustrious son of the state and one whom the state is proud of.

It noted that the years of experiences of Kpotun as a super Cop, haven benefitted from professional training within and outside Nigeria, are invaluable assets which the nation requires to overcome its security challenges.
It said the Nigeria Police Force in this twenty first century needs a Police Officer like Idris Kpotun who has the exposure of policing both within and outside the shores of Nigeria, to squarely confront the security challenges in this era of globalization, high networked criminality and terrorism.
“Niger State Government has no doubt that with his experience in terms of Police operations; he will discharge his assignment as Inspector General of Police without let. We are confident that he will build an enviable Police Force that will be able to guaranty security to lives and property”, the statement reads in parts.
Kpotun’s appointment as IGP was endorsed by the National Council of States last Wednesday and he has just a hurdle to cross as he awaits the ratification of the Senate when it resumes from its recess.
