New comer lawmaker but a former Commissioner of Justice in Niger States, Barrister Abdullahi Bawa Wuse has emerged Speaker of the 9th Niger State House of Assembly.
The 27 members of the Assembly overwhelmingly affirmed as the choice of Barr. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse as Speaker during the first session of the 9th Assembly held amidst capacity filled hallowed chamber of the Assembly.
Earlier, outgoung Speaker of the 8th Niger State House of Assembly, Ahmed Marafa Guni had moved for the nomination of Barr. Wuse as Speaker of the House.
Four lawmakers including the outgoing Speaker had earlier bidded to stand the election as Speaker. But as the session commenced, Ahmed Marafa Guni surprised the lawmakers as he moved for the nomination of Barr. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse for the House Speakership against his own candidature.
It was obvious however that Bawa Wuse was a consensus candidate who equally had the blessings of the state’s executive arm.
Two other aspirants, Malik Madaki Bosso and Andrew Jagaba fizzled out as the pendulum swung to the preferred and obviously anointed choice.
The new Speaker is from Tafa constituency and was once Chairman of Tafa Local Government Council and former Attorney General and commissioner of Justice during the immediate past administration in Niger state.
The ninth House also elected Bako Kasim Alfa from Bida I constituency as Deputy Speaker of the House.
Other principal officers elected include Musa Suleiman as the Majority Leader of the House, Andrew Jagaba as Deputy Majority Leader while the House elected Musa Idris as Chief Whip and Ibrahim Isa Dan Dodo as Deputy Chief Whip.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello who inaugurated the 9th Assembly in his remarks read on his behalf by his Deputy, Ahmed Muhammad Ketso expressed optimism that the Lawmakers would work towards having a cordial relationship with the executive arm.
The new Speaker had in his acceptance speech, pledged to work for the progress of the Assembly. While accepting the responsibilities reposed in him, said the new leadership would lay emphasis on the capacity building of the lawmakers and work for the progress of the state.
The Speaker along with other principal officers were sworn into office by the Clark of the Assembly, Abdullahi Kagara.
The current Assembly in the state has one female lawmaker, Binta Mamman from Gurara constituency of the state.
