NBTE counsels tertiary institutions staff against Cyber crimes

National Board for Technical Education, NBTE has trained staffs of polytechnics and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria on counter measures against cyber crimes perpetrated by the hackers.
Speaking  at the opening of the 5-day workshop organized by the board in collaboration with African Institute for Information Security (AIIS) held in Kaduna, NBTE Executive Secretary, Dr. Masa’udu Kazaure said cyber crime has been on the increase.
According to him, due to the increase hence the need to expose staffs to the tricks of hackers vis-a-vis its counter measures.
Dr Kazaure said training its staffs against the activities of the hackers will provide an avenue for it to perform effectively.
“In recent times, cyber security issues continues to top headlines. Incidents such as cross broader cyber-attack and cyber warfare makes the news on almost daily basis, not only in Nigeria but also in the international community.
“The training is intended for equipping security enthusiast with required skills in order to perform effective, security assessment of systems, network, web applications infrastructure.
“The course module covers a broader aspect of the cyber security problems which primarily focuses on cyber security and the necessary action to be taken towards countering them.
“This training will expose the tricks of hackers vis-a-vis its counter measures and will also expose participants to series of ways in which any incident could be traced.
“This course is designed to ensure that participants acquire an understanding of the operational techniques used in the information Security (InfoSec) industry. The goals are to enable the participants achieve a better understanding of the range of these techniques.
“It will also serve as a useful revision for more experienced Info Tech personnel. Every system, network, web application has its security vulnerabilities – ways in which its security can be compromised. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify the vulnerabilities of the systems/network/web applications, analyze the likelihood of threats carried out exploiting these vulnerabilities and assess the consequences of the realization of each potential threats.
“The National Board for Technical Education, NBTE over the years has shown strong commitment and devotion to creating an ever growing and vibrant community of exceptional workforce, entrepreneurs, faculty, researchers and students by equipping them with the basic and necessary knowledge and skills needed to carry out their duties and to tackle the enormous challenges that faces us at the various levels in all the polytechnics in Nigeria and beyond the polytechnic community.
“It is quite obvious that cyber crime has been on the increase and all should be done to atleast counter it, if not eliminate it completely,” Kazaure stated.
