Four members of a notorious syndicate that specialises in diversion of goods are now in police net in Lagos for allegedly diverting goods worth N10 million.
The suspects, identified as Ganiyu Yusuf, 62, Femi Adewara, 51, Ibrahim Suleimon,30, and Akeem Abdullahi. 48, were said to have been apprehended by operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) assisted by local police unit on July 4th, 2018 based on credible information.
They were alleged to have diverted the goods which include floor tiles and other building materials from Apapa Port to a shop at Oluwo Plaza, Iddo terminal in.Oyingbo area of Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos Command Edgal Imohimi confirmed the arrest during a parade of some suspected criminals on Monday at the command headquarter, Ikeja.
He disclosed that the goods were contained on a 1×20 container, adding that the stealing was perpetrated with the aid of forged documents which enabled them to move the container out of the port.
Edgal added 406 cartons of floor tiles, 6 imported iron doors, 3 packs of wooden frames and 29 wood PVC were recovered from them.
He said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation into the case is over.
His words, ” On 04/07/2018, information was received that a 1×20 feet container laden with floor tiles and other building materials valued about ten million naira only (N10,000,00) was diverted from Apapa Port and off loaded into a shop at 24 Oluwo Plaza. ido terminal, Lagos. The stealing was done with the aid of forged documents which enabled them to move the container out of the port.
Based on the above, FSARS operatives assisted by local police unit, located the shop and apprehended the following persons Ganiyu Yusuf “m”. 62yrs, Femi Adewara ” m”51yrs, Ibrahim Suleimon “m” 30yrs and Akeem Abdullahi “m” 48yrs.
Exhibit recovered from them are: 406 cartons of floor tiles,6 imported iron doors, 3 packs of wooden frames; and 29 wood PVC”.
