The just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) wards Congresses in Adamawa State has been trailed by mixed reactions as party members seem to be divided over political interests.
Delegates were divided over the conduct of the congress, while some were claiming the congress was conducted peacefully, others were protesting that the congress never held in their wards.
Honourable Sadi Rabiu, Councillor Representing Nassarawo Ward, Yola North Local Government Area of the state told New Nigerian that the electoral committee did not show up at the venue of the congress in his ward at the Jimeta temporary Stadium.
He said that as the security officer of the ward with the collaboration of the Independence National Electoral Commission,(INEC) and security officers sent to monitor the conduct of the congress, he ordered delegates to line up at the back of their choice candidate adding that they counted the votes and the delegates and some APC stakeholders who were in support of the development.
He said there were two contestants for chairmanship in his ward, one Allaji Sabiu Mohammed who scored 6,770 votes while Alhaji Modibbo Usman scored 1671 votes by their counting adding that when the supporters of Usman realized that their candidate did not win, they stated trouble as they beat up an INEC staff in the process who was assigned to monitor the congress in their ward.
Rabiu said ,it took the intervention of security agencies to rescue the INEC officials from Usman’ supporters.
At Wuro Hausa ward in Yola South, the delegates faulted the conduct of the congress in their wards but the coming of the former EFCC Boss,Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who casted his vote in that wards douse the tension that was about to erupt by addressing the problems with the congress committee .
Chairman of the congress committee, Honourable Musa Mahmud said that his team visited three wards and saw the exercise being conducted as arranged.
He maintained that the congress stated 1pm yet they had delay in some wards due to the lateness of voting materials to the voting centres.
Speaker of the Adamawa State Assembly, Honourable Kabiru Mijinyawa in an interview with journalists said the exercise was conducted in a peaceful and rancour free atmosphere.
Mijinyawa expressed reservation over the attitudes of some politicians who are just creating unnecessary tension by misleading their supporters on the conduct of the exercise.
However, some voters who were visibly disturbed lamented the exercise was not conducted in their ward at Umaru Sanda ward in Yola town.
They decried that the impunity the APC is accusing the PDP of is also in APC and if nothing was done to address it, they would be left with no option but join PDP in the elections.
It would be recalled that the election which was slated for Saturday was shifted to yesterday (Sunday) due to protest by some stakeholders who felt shortchange in the purchase of ward congress election.
The congresses committee then ordered the congress for Sunday to carry all along promising to conduct free and fair congresses in the state,
However, despite all the complain, the turn-out for congress was very impressive.
