The Lagos State Police Command has said that it has dismissed at least eight Policemen between the months of January and June 2018 for professional misconduct.
It added that four others had their ranks reduced, 43 for major entry, three suffered severe reprimand, four for extra fatigue and 28 issued with warning notice.
Amongst the dismissed officers were three cops, identified as Inspector Momoh Sulaiman, with service number 220957, Sgt. Emmanuel Monday, service number 429659 and 434246 Sgt. Adamu Usman, with service number 432246.
The trio were alleged to have sprayed tear-gas on one Mr. Ademuwagun Temitope Solomon at Chinese town in Ojota area of the state, which provoked severe asthmatic crisis in him.
In a statement by its public relations officer SP. Chike Oti, the command said the dismissed officers were tried in an orderly room which commenced on 9th June 2018, and were found guilty as charged.
According to the release, while the dismissal proceeding of Inspector Momoh Sulaiman was forwarded to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 for approval, the duo of Emanuel.Monday and Adamu Usman were dismissed and de-kitted accordingly.
Titled “Half Year Disciplinary Record”, the command further stated in the release that all the officers were tried in a properly constituted orderly room and were found guilty of various offences against discipline which earned them appropriate punishments depending on the charges against them.
It reads, ” In keeping with its promise to regularly update Lagosians about the activities of the Command, the Lagos State Police Command, wishes to inform members of the public that the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal has dismissed the three police men, comprising of an inspector and two sergeants, who were alleged to have sprayed tear-gas on Mr. Ademuwagun Temitope Solomon which provoked severe asthmatic crisis in him. The incident took place at Chinese town, Ojota area of Lagos state.
The men whose names and service numbers are: (1) 220957 Inspector Momoh Sulaiman, (2) 429659 Sgt. Emmanuel Monday and (3) 434246 Sgt. Adamu Usman, were tried in an orderly room which commenced yesterday 09/06/2018 and were found guilty as charged. They were therefore dismissed and de-kitted accordingly. However, the dismissal proceeding of Inspector Momoh Sulaiman has been forwarded to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 for approval”.
Similarly the Command wishes to use this medium to release its half year disciplinary record for the period spanning from January to June, 2018. The officers were tried in a properly constituted orderly room and were found guilty of various offences against discipline which earned them appropriate punishments depending on the charges against them”.
While giving a breakdown of the total number of affected cops, it stated,”Below is the breakdown of types of punishment awarded to deserving officers :

The Commissioner of Police, said that this would serve as a deterrent to other police men wishing to toe the path of infamy,.
Edgal reiterated that the Nigeria Police under the watch of the Inspector General of Police have no room for them.
He therefore warned all serving police officers to be professional at all times in the discharge of their duties and shun corrupt practices.
