Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football competition, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor is delighted that no case of indiscipline has been witnessed since the commencement of this year’ s edition.
He disclosed to New Nigerian Sports that the 64 teams taking part in the first round of the tournament have maintained the discipline the competition is noted for since inception urging them to continue with it till the end of the championship.
” I’ m happy that the biggest grassroots football tournament in the country is moving on smoothly without any hitches with fantastic goals scored to the delight of the fans.
” It’s a testimony of what ” The Redeemed Evangelical Mission ( TREM ) and our Lord Bishop, Bishop Mike Okonkwo has been preaching and I want the teams to maintain that level of discipline till the end of the tournament”, he stated.
Ndubuzor while expressing delight at the level of football artistry being displayed by the players assured that the LOC is working hard to ensure that the momentum of the competition is sustained.
Meanwhile, in some of the matches decided, Momentum FC lost by 1-2 to Synergy Strikers while Rehoboth FC walloped Higher Ground FC 4-0 just as Songhai FC lost by a lone goal to Young Stars FC.
A total of 64 male and eight female teams are participating in the championship.
Action continue this weekend as Diamond FC lock horns with OYC while Victory FC meets Soccer Stars FC. Also Sporting FA will play host to Sunny FC with Kakaki FC squaring up against Team 360 FC in the last match of the day.
