Tragedy struck on Wednesday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan when a middle aged man committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of one of the buildings in the hospital and died instantly.
Sources close to the man claimed that he left a note alleging that he committed the suicide because he was duped of N30 million by some people
New Nigerian gathered that the yet to be identified man on getting to the 5th floor said to be housing the UCH Museum on sighting that no one was around to challenge him of his mission at the Museum area reportedly removed his pairs of leather slippers after which he jumped down from the fifth floor .
According to eyewitnesses at the hospital, the man while coming down hit his head on the hospital’s concrete floor by the UCH mortuary side and gave up the ghost immediately.
On sighting the man on the floor, most of the people around the ward though caught unawares were said to have rushed towards him with the aim of rescuing him only to discovered that he was lifeless.
However, the man was later certified dead by the medical experts at the emergency unit of the hospital where he was rushed to.
As at the time of sending this report, he body of the man has been deposited at the UCH morgue.
UCH’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Deji Bobade, while confirming the story said t the fifth floor houses the museum of the teaching hospital, with no wards on the floor, and that “patients should not have anything to do with the fifth floor.”
Mr Bobade disclosed that the identity of the man was yet to be ascertained and that the police had been invited to examine his body in and possibly identifying him.
