The Social Democratic Party in Oyo state has kicked against the guideline and Timetable by Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission for the conduct of Local government and Local Councils Development Authority elections in the state.
SDP in a statement signed by its publicity Secretary in Oyo state, Alhaji Akeem Azeez said the released election time table was nothing but a ruse aimed at elongating the tenure of illegally appointed caretakers in the state.
He lamented that it was unfortunate that OYSIEC in the said time table could be mandating  all political parties to hold  their primary elections within 48hours after the timetable was released to the members of the public.
“How could a serious election commission ordered primary to be held within 48hours after the timetable was released to the members of the public. Even, the Abacha organized elections were better organised than what the APC led Government is planning to force on the peace loving people of Oyo State”he said.
SDP spokes person stressed that OYSIEC Chairman on his part failed  “to call a stakeholders meeting of all political parties in the state to access the readiness, challenges, Security and prospect if any exist assessment in the state. But ordered everyone around as if the people of the state is accountable to the rulling party but they need to be told the reverse is the case”.
“It is very pathetic that despite that it takes the APC led government in Oyo state about six years to allow people of the state to choose their choice in the third tier of government which is closest to them yet they are still giving us reasons to doubt their readiness to conduct a free and fair elections”.
Alhaji Azeez however urged all the political parties in Oyo state “to come together with one voice by rejecting the obnoxious local government guidelines as released and call for a more feasible guideline that will promote internal democracy in the parties involved and guarantees a free and fair forthcoming Local government election in Oyo state”
