The Chairman of the  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole  on Wednesday declared that those leading Nigeria do not believe in Nigeria and are not committed to solving her problems.

Dr Omole said this while featuring as guest of the month of  the Oyo NUJ Correspondents Chapel held at the Chapel secretariat, Mokola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The ASUU Chairman stressed that the present situation in Nigeria has clearly revealed that neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can provide  solution to the problems facing Nigerians.

Emphasizing that ” it is shameful that Nigeria under  President Mohammadu Buhari cannot refine enough fuel for domestic consumption despite being the Minister of Petroleum”,Dr Omole noted that Nigerians appeared to have been defrauded by the government when the President said he would want to oversee the Ministry himself to get the desired change.

“That we cannot refine oil for local consumption let alone for export is a shame. This is still happening because those leading us do not believe in Nigeria. It is unfortunate that those leading this country run abroad for health, education and even save stolen funds abroad. They only preside over a country they do not believe in.” he said.

Speaking further, Dr Omole lashed out at the APC-led Federal government on some of  its policies,  saying, nothing would change in the Education and health sectors since the President believes his children can school and graduate abroad while he can access quality health care in the UK.”

“The Government of Buhari has continued to slide down the budget allocation to education. In Nigeria now, corruption is official because the government only makes noise rather than fight the scourge.”

Dr Omole added that nearly 75 per cent of Nigeria-trained qualified doctors have left the country while those at home are planning to leave owing to the poor working conditions and bad welfare schemes.

Commenting on the ASUU petitition to EFCC on the alleged fraud at the University of Ilorin, Dr Omole while alleging that the President Buhari led  government “is not serious about fighting corruption,”  challenged the EFCC to make public outcome of the ASUU petition.
