Late Tor Tiv a rare gem – Dogara
By; Iyokpo Egbodo, Abuja.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has described the late Tor Tiv, Alfred Akawe Torkula as a rare gem to the nation, and the only way to honour him was for Nigerians to emulate and replicate his legacies.

A statement by his spokesperson, Turaki Hassan explained that the Speaker made the call at the funeral of the late monarch in Gboko, Benue State, where he extoled the virtues of the late Torkula. He described him as a man of peace, and a patriot whose reign brought unprecedented development to the Tiv nation.

“We have lost a rear gem and a man of vision whose public service career prepared him ahead of others and propelled him to succeed as Tor Tiv. We will miss him, his rich and wide wealth of wisdom he garnered.

“The dead man is never hounoured by words of ovation. We can praise him to the highest heaven but it wont make any meaning to him but the only way to honour him is to replicate his good deeds.

“Families, Benue state and Nigeria need peace and we can only honour him if we continue with peace building and philantrophy which are the legacies he left behind,” Dogara stated.

The Speaker said late Torkula belongs to the special class of famous people, and that the entire world is their grave, as “they are honoured by the works and good deeds that survive them which are not inscribed in any tomb but written in the hearts and minds of the people  they left behind”.
