Landmark College to construct sports complex

One of the leading private secondary schoolS in the country, Landmark College, Ikorodu, Lagos State has commenced the construction of a sports complex in the school.
Chief Executive Officer of the college, Isiaka Oyebanji told our correspondent that the sports complex will not only provide students the platform to exhibit their talents but can be used by the National Sports Commission to prepare athletes ahead of major tournament as well as also serve as venue to host major sporting events.
According to him, the sports complex which is expected to be completed in 2017 will house an Olympic size swimming pool, basketball, volleyball and badminton courts as well as tartan tracks for athletic events even as he announced that the school’s 2016 Inter House Sports competition will be held at the sports complex.
“At Landmark College, we take the issue of sports serious and that is why we are embarking on the construction of a sports complex that will boast of the most modern sporting facilities.
“When we finish the construction in 2017, it is expected that it will serve as a platform for discovering talents and also enable the National Sports Commission have a conducive environment to prepare athletes ahead of international competitions”.
On the performance of Nigeria in global sports in 2015, he posited that the winning of the U-17 tournament in Chile, D’Tigers victory at the Afro Basket Ball Championship and the winning of CHAN by the U-23 team in Senegal, made 2015 a remarkable year for Nigeria just as he noted that Nigeria could have done better if the NSC had prepared athletes well ahead of major competitions.
Oyebanji while wishing clubs that will represent Nigeria at the continental level this year well, bemoaned the inhuman treatment meted out to Taraba FC players by the Taraba State Government over nonpayment of their salaries, describing the act as barbaric.
