Three members of a syndicate that specialises in forceful grabbing of land are now in police net over alleged threatening of lives of residents of a community in Ogun state with firearms.
The suspects, identified as Lateef Salami 60, Femi Olatunji 47 and Ibrahim Olatunde 31 were arrested by

The Zone 2 Command, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Dolapo Badmus,who made the disclosure said, the suspects were apprehended when they stormed the community, brandishing guns at the residents, claiming they have court judgment authorising them to take possession of their land.
Narrrating the modus oparandi of the suspects, Badmus said, they usually go to local communities and claim they have court judgment over such land and further paste possession notice on their building.
” They always threatened to shot whoever that prevented them from posting the possession noticed on their building.
The officer in charge of the zonal Intervention squad CSP Gbenga Megbope acted on a tip off and a team from the zone moved to area and arrested the suspects while perpetrating the act”, the Zone 2 command image maker said.
Badmus disclosed one Jeff cut to size double barrel gun and two single barrel cut to size gun was recovered from them, adding that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adamu Ibrahim has directed that the suspects be charged to court after completion of investigation.
In a chat with journalists, one of the suspects Salami told our correspondent that they went to the community to reclaim the land after they won the court case.
He said: “We are the rightful owner of the land, it was after we won the court case that we went to the community to served them court noticed. We only armed ourselves because we don’t know if we may come across those that might want to attack us.
“It was when we are coming out of the community, after pasting the possession notice that policemen who had laid ambushed for us came out and arrested the three of us”.
Another suspect, Olatunde on his own said, he was contracted by one Femi to accompany him to the community in case of any attack from the landlords that was why he went with them.
It was Femi who provide us the guns we used for the operation, I was promised three plots of land after successful taking over of the land. I needed money that was why I went with him. “
