KDHA Demands Non Usage Of Curtains, Tinted Glasses On Tricycle

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has advised the executive arm of government, to as a matter of urgency direct the relevant agencies in charge of enforcing roads laws to carry out a regular checks on all commercial tricycle popularly known as keke-Napep operators who plight the roads, to ensure that none of them uses curtain nor tinted glass anywhere in the state.

The state government was also advised to ensure that through its relevant agencies, only person of proven characters and attested by the leaders of the keke-Napep union as well as their communities leaders are permitted to operate the machine.

This was the resolution of the House reach at the end of its deliberation following a motion moved by a member representing Basawa constituency, Alhaji Isah Hazo.

Shading more light on the motion, Alhaji Hazo said the motion came in view of complaints from different parts of the state about alleged carnival of some tricycle operators with their friends to carry out immorality and sexual assault on female passengers on board as well as using same for act of robbery.

According to him, the immorality and unruly behaviors exhibited by some of the tricycle operators in some part of the state especially in Sabo Gari local government called for concerned going by the number of report he received in his constituency, as such it should be look upon by the relevant agencies for the safety of lives and property of the citizens of the state.

In their various contributions, the law makers who supported the motion said that the initial plan of banning the commercial motors cycle operation was to reduce crime in the state and if the accesses of the tricycle operators is not check the aim will be defeated.

They were all of the opinion, tricycle operators do not need to use tinted glass non curtain other than the tarpaulin.

The lawmakers also frowned at the use of music on highway by the keke-Napep operators while driving and recklessness which causes accident on the road.

The speaker of the House, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali who presided over the proceeding, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the assembly resolution to the executive arm for its urgent attention.

In a related development, the House of Assembly referred the bill for a law to provide for the Kaduna State and budget Commission to its committee on appropriation and budget planning to carry out at in-depth study and to report back to house on Wednesday 22th, February, 2017.
