KASTELA to replace VIO in Kaduna state
By; Samson Yaki, Kaduna.
The Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Agency (KASTELA ) is billed to replace the recently banned Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) in the state.
Honorable Isah Hazo, Chairman House Committee on works, Housing and Transportation in the State House of Assembly made this known in a chat with journalists in Kaduna.
Honorable Hazo said VIO is an arm of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport and has no statutory backing that can question the governor’s decision to ban it without delay and consultation.
Honorable Isah said that, “the ban of the VIO in the state is in line with the government policies and programmes. VIO is a sector in the ministry of works, transport and housing and there is no law in the Assembly here regarding VIO. And so it is at the discretion of the governor to take decisions that would benefit the citizens of the state in that regards”.
He said that even though they are banned the personnel have been absorbed into the ministry while the student trainees of the sector who are students under the ministry are also back to their institute.
On who to takes over the job of the VIO in Kaduna state, Hazo said the recently established Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Agency (KASTELA) will come to replace the work of VIO in the state.
He maintained that since KASTELA has a wider jurisdiction than the VIO, there would be no need for VIO again to avoid duplication of duty that may lead to clash of interest.
