The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sunusi 11, has suggested the improvement of the agricultural sector as remedy towards addressing rate of unemployment and other challenges facing the country.
The Emir made the suggestion at the 2019 Pre-Ramadan Lecture with the Topic “Evidence Based Solutions to the Nigerian Economy: The Islamic Perspective”, organized by the Bauchi State Chapter of the Association of Muslim Professionals, held Sunday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
Malam Muhammad Sunusi remarked that before the discovery of oil, the Nigerian Economy was driven by agriculture, insisting that there was the need for the revival of the sector through the engagement of experts.
The Emir, who was represented by Sarkin Shanun Kano Alhaji Shehu Mohammed, said the effort of the present administration to support the agricultural sector had motivated many Nigerians to engage in farming activities.
In a keynote address, Bauchi State Governor Muhammad Abubukar represented by the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Community Relations, Alhaji Ado Sarkin Aska urged the association to seek partnership with the state government for effective propagation of its activities.
I their presentation, Guest Speakers at the Public lecture, Dr Naziru Sulaiman of ATBU Bauchi and Dr Abdulmajid Jamal Abubakar of ATAP Bauchi identified corruption as one of the challenges affecting the growth and development of the nation’s economy, and suggested the review of the country’s economic policy.
They identified insecurity, lack of environment and economic corruption as some of the problems affecting Nigeria’s economy, saying that lower human capital is among the impact of corruption on an economy.
In a welcome address, the National President, Association of Muslim Professionals, Professor Suleiman Bala Dalhat recalled that the association was established to promote the practice of Islam through the use of the knowledge of its members.
Earlier, the State Ameer of the association, Dr. Umar Uthman said the action plan of the association for this year is among others, reaching out to rural areas with a view to educating them on the teachings of Islam.
