In view of its quest at letting children have a good knowledge on how to identify fake products, the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) took advantage of the 39th Kaduna International Trade and Investment Fair in educating school children.
Prince Suleiman Olajide Attah, who was the officer in charge of the SON stand at the just concluded fair expressed this in a chat with our correspondent in Kaduna on Monday March 5, 2018.
“A lot of attention was also given to pupils and students on red flags on substandard products.
“This is a process of letting kids know from early and superimpose it on their consciousness,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that they engaged a lot of people with flyers and lectures on identifying products with their Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) seal for locally manufactured products, to the over 500 who visited their stand, with  more than 20 secondary schools also on escorted tour to their stand.
“We gave lectures on easier processes of obtaining SONCAP for importers in line with PEBEC directives.
“We also engaged the public on consumer complaint desk to seek redress if not satisfy with any products,” he said.
Prince Attah explained that they made people aware of SON marks of quality.
“We also moved from stands to pavilions engaging the fair participants on good practices,” he added.
Commenting on the fair generally, he described it as successful.

“It was good generally. But the international representation was poor. Also, the states representation is gradually declining.

“A lot of people were exposed to exhibitors from all over the country.
“Overall it was a successful outing by Kaduna Chamber of Commerce,” he concluded.
