In its quest at ensuring that state owned Kaduna United Football Club gets a befitting home ground, the state government has shut the facility down beginning from this week.
Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Daniel Danauta announced this at the closing ceremony of the second edition of Engineer Musa Nimrod Peace and Unity Soccer Competition held at the Kaduna Township Stadium, on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
Honourable Danauta hinted that the closing ceremony of the Nimrod Cup was the last public function the facility would be hosting before the facelift.
“I want to plead with clubs and organisations that use the facility by announcing that for all things being equal, in preparation for the league, this facility will this week be closed down,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that sports as an activity can only be supported by government through the provision of enabling environment, but must be driven by the private sector.
“Sports as an activity can only be supported by government, but cannot be run by government. Sports is private driven. The government of His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai will continue to provide an enabling environment sports lovers in the society,” he stressed.
Danauta told the teams that featured in the Engineer Nimrod Competition to see all of themselves as winners.
“To the teams that participated, I want to tell all of you that everyone is a winner. The fact that you participated, makes you a winner. I congratulate all of you. Even though you are not going home with the trophy, you are going home with footballs to train with,” he added.
