The Kaduna State Referees Council on Monday held its Annual General Meeting with a pledge to improve the welfare of members and protect them from assault.
Thomas Awok, General Secretary of the council said during the opening of the event in Kaduna, that the council would also address issues of fitness, training and other essentials.
“Referees must take their training seriously in order to be at their best at all times; this is why we are always advocating that the position of the training officer must not be political.”
He urged instructors and assessors to use their experience and impact on younger referees. “I want to use this medium to appeal to our trained instructors and assessors to use their experience by translating what they have acquired at various trainings to impact on our young referees.
“I want to appreciate the training department for their focus and commitment, with little or no resources, which helped some of our referees to get promoted to premier league last year.
“The state candidates for the year got 100 per cent in promotion exams at all grades and I encourage them not to rest on this good performance.”
Awok urged them not to toy with their medical and physical fitness as it was the bedrock of every referee.
He commended the national body for holding some of its programmes this year in Kaduna.
