Following cases of alleged irregularities from last weekend’s Kaduna Local Council Polls, Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their contestants have once again, said that they are in possession of overwhelming evidence that they won all the 23 local government areas and majority of the wards.
They expressed this at a press briefing held at the PDP Kaduna State secretariat on Wednesday.
The main opposition leaders frowned at the what they described as the abduction of returning officers and forcing them to announce results that were different from those gathered at polling units.
The local government PDP chairmen, said that they would not tolerate the stealing of their mandates but would seek every legal means in proving that the electorate preferred their party and displayed same through the ballots.
They wondered why an election that ought to have been a standard for others to follow was later made a joke and shame of the democratic process.
In an interview with some newsmen after the briefing, the Kaduna North LGA PDP Chairman, Mohammed Hamisu Dan-Tajiri said that even though they have proof that their oarty won 7 out of the 12 wards in the LGA, they were shocked that result was announced in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“From the records from our agents, we won seven wards. We were waiting for results to be collated and announced at the local government collation centre, only to realize that the returning officer was at large.
“I called our returning officer for the local government area, Honourable Nazifi that he should go to the collation centre and he was there till 11:30pm, none of them showed up.
“I later joined him there and we were there till morning, nobody came there, only for us to hear them announcing results that they have won.
“In Kabala, their councillorship candidate scored 1,200 votes, but they changed it to 12,000 votes,” he said.
Others who spoke, also narrated incidents in their respective LGAs.
Sanga LGA said that they scored the highest number of votes at the polls and are wondering why the returning officer has not declared the PDP candidate winner.
Chikun LGA said that they are leading the APC with thousands of votes, in spite of the over 6,000 they got from Kakau Ward which was cancelled, also wondered why they have not been declared winners.
Same was expressed by Kaduna South LGA, which has also not been announced by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KA
