The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai during the weekend gave defaulting contractors for the supply of school furniture four weeks to supply or be ready to face the consequences the inaction.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani gave the ultimatum during a meeting with the contractors in the ministry’s conference room.

Sani said that the contracts were awarded between 2015 and 2016, adding that about 52 per cent of the contractors have defaulted.

He expressed displeasure with the contractors who were given 50 per cent mobilization, but failed to supply up to 50 per cent of the expected furniture.

According to him, the four weeks window was to give the defaulting contractors opportunity to make things right.

He however, said that any contractor who failed to meet up with the four weeks deadline would face the wrath of the law.

“Kaduna state government is doing everything possible to provide conducive learning environment in its public school and will do everything to ensure that the objective is achieved.

“So every contractor is expected to meet up with the terms of agreement. If we have given you 50 per cent of the contract sum, give us furniture commensurate the amount advanced paid.

You are already behind schedule, but we are willing to let that go for the interest of progress so that we don’t have a failed project.

Sani  therefore, implore them to do the needful and save themselves embarrassment, “he said.
