In an attempt to forestall future break down of law and order and to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed, Jema’a Local Government Council in Kaduna State has inaugurated a local peace committee.
The committee is saddled with the responsibility of among other things, meet regularly to ensure lasting peace and also provide workable ways of promoting unity in diversity amongst people irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation in the local government area.
Inaugurating the committee on Thursday during a town hall meeting on peace held in Kafanchan, the council chairman who doubles as the Chairman of the committee, Mr Danjuma Peter Averik, said the committee has Twelve (12) members drawn across major stakeholders in the local government.
He tasked member of the committee to be dedicated to their assign responsibility by working diligently without biais for the overall development of the area.
Mr. Averik who commended the people for resisting the temptation of reprisal attacks following last month crisis in some parts of the state, noted that peace remains the bedrock to societal growth, hence, all hands must be on deck to achieve lasting peace.
Various contributors on proffering ways of improving the existing relative peace in the area, were unanimous on the need for security operatives to be awake to their responsibility and ensure speedy prosecution of offenders to serve as detterant to others.
They also called on the public to always verify rumors before taking action and to desist from taking the laws into their hands, as well as the establishment of Peace clubs in schools across the local government.
Participants at the town hall meeting were drawn from the traditional and religious institutions, all security agencies, women and youth groups across the twelve wards of the local government area.
A minute silence was also observed for the repose of the soul of the late Agwam Adara, Mr. Maiwada Galadima, who was kidnapped and allegedly killed by his abductors last week.
