Kaduna Community Lauds UNICEF ‎for Provision of Healthcare Services

Dutsen Abba, community in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was agog at the weekend when a team of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), from New York, led by Omar Abdi‎, Deputy Executive Director, Programme, visited the community to access how healthcare services are being delivered to children and women.
Also to understand how they are ‎engaged in contributing to healthcare development in their lives and community. Members of the community who trooped out enmass, commended UNICEF for its contribution to the healthcare services in their community.
Some women who spoke, revealed that before UNICEF interventions in their community, healthcare delivery was nothing to right home about.
According to them, they used to go to Zaria town for almost every medical attention they need but now their health centre can compete with other centres in Kaduna state.
They pointed out that provision of malnutrition supplements and other drugs has really improved the nutrition status of their children.
On his part, District Head of Dutsen Abba, Falalu Umar, also commended UNICEF and Kaduna State Government for considering his district for interventions to improve the lives of women and children.
‎Speaking on the purpose of their visit, Country Representative, UNICEF Nigeria, Mohammed Fall‎,  ‎explained that they are in Kaduna to “engage with the governor and his council and at the same time to come to the community to see how services are delivered for children.
‎”And we are completely satisfied for what we have seen in terms of engagement from the government side and on the commitment and engagement from the community side.”
‎Fall, noted that though, what’s on ground is completely satisfactory, but that there is room for improvement. Adding, “this programme is for this community, Kaduna and Nigeria, what UNICEF does is to support, bring technical assistance and best practice from other parts of the world.
“We try to see where there are shortcomings and we try to help to improve them. I think this visit will also try to help us conduct few assessment so we can indicate to our partners what we can do better in saving more lives of children in the communities.”
He applauded the Kaduna State government for its commitment in terms of release of resources for the course of ch‎ildren, saying “Kaduna is a good example of partnership.
‎”We have seen the Kaduna State releasing funding for children, they released close to one million dollars recently in support of buying more therapeutic food for children suffering from severe and acute malnutrition”.
