The Bakin Kogi Kaninkon community in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State has appealed for help to rebuilt 109 houses destroyed during attack by Fulani herdsmen in Feb. 2017.
Mr Zubairu Yohana, Chairman, Bakin Kogi Relief Committee made the appeal on Friday, while conducting the Executive Director, Care and Action Research (Care-NGO), Mrs Joy Dogo, round the affected houses.
According to him, about N218 million is needed to rebuild the houses.
Yohana recalled that 15 residents were killed, 109 houses completely destroyed and about 3,000 residents rendered homeless.
He told the NGO that most of the support from well-meaning Nigerians and NGOs were food items and clothes, adding that what the victims needed now was support to rebuild their homes.
“So far, the Founder of Fantsam Foundation, Prof John Dada has helped to rebuilt two of the destroyed houses, while a civil servant, Mr Monday Barau donated about 218 bags of cement to the community.
“We are also appealing to the state government to provide us with clean drinking water, this is because at the moment, our only source of drinking water is from well,” he said.
Earlier, Dogo explained that she was in the community to donate some clothes and food items to the victims of the attack.
She told the Chief of Kaninkon, Malam Tanko Tete, that the donation was pooled together by Care-NGO and Dr Freeman Kamuru, President of Southern Kaduna in Diaspora, United State Chapter.
“Kamuru is currently reaching out to other members to mobilise resources. Care-NGO would also mobilise resources.  I assure you that more help is underway as soon as I feed SOKAD with my findings, “she said.
Responding, Tete thanked the donors for the support and appealed to other Nigerians to come to the aid of the victims.
