For the first time ever in Africa, a 20-goal, high-goal polo category would be featuring in the Centenary Polo Tournament at the Kaduna Polo Tournament.
Ahead of that, the club has geared up preparations for the historic tournament, billed to commence a forth night from date.
Already, friends and members of the club have donated about N38m for renovations of the club house.
Prominent polo player, Adamu Atta contributed N5m to the project.
Alhaji Kashim Shettima also supported with N5m, Malam Suleiman Bello doled out N10m, President of the Club, contributed N5m Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida gave N5m and Keffi Ponys Patron, Honourable Aliyu Ahmed Wadada dropped N3m.
Work is still ongoing, but assurances were given that it would be completed in good time before the historic tournament.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Tournament Manager, Honourable Ibrahim Kontagora said that another plus ahead of the centenary tournament is that all their players that left the club have been reunited.
“All our players are back. A 20-goal match which will be first in Africa will be featured. And nothing less than 50 teams expected to participate in the tournament,” he said.
Speaking further, he explained that they are expecting foreign players from Argentina, South Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya at this year’s Kaduna International Polo Tournament.
“We are expecting players from all over the country. Players like Adamu Atta will feature in the Georgian Cup,” he added.
Kontagora said that the pitch is been put in shape to withstand pressure.
“We got a sponsor to prepare it. We are expecting six Georgian Games and the pitch would be ready for the games,” he added.
