In its bid to enhance manpower as well as ensure effective healthcare delivery, the Kaduna State House Assembly is set to amend the Kaduna State College of Midwifery Law, 2014.
This followed the second reading of a bill for a law to amend the Kaduna State College of Midwifery Law 2014, sponsored by Malam Muhammad Bello ‎Haruna a member representing Igabi Constituency.
Shedding more light on the bill before the floor of the House, Muhammad said he decided to work on this particular bill because the Health Sector lacks Nurses and Midwives but with the amendment, it will enhance manpower for both midwives and nursing personnel within the state.
It would be recalled that the Midwifery Law was enacted in 2014 by the Kaduna State House of Assembly and three years into ‎the implementation of the Law, certain observations have been made which needs to be effected so as to enhance and also strengthen the operation of the college.
In his contribution during the debate on the floor of the House, Alhaji Mukhtar Isa Hazo, a member representing Basawa Constituency said the bill was timely as it gears towards   straightening  the college of midwifery with regards to nursing services.
Also, the member representing  Kagarko Constituency, Deacon Nuhu Goro said he was excited to receive such a bill as if worked on, it helps in eradicating all the problems the college is faced with and graduating students will be fully accredited.
“I pray that positive action will be taken by the Honourable House to ensure smooth operation of the law for the progress and the development of the health sector in the state as it will add up to the manpower requirements for both midwives and nursing personnel to man the many health facilities being put up by the government,” he added.
The bill was therefore referred to the committee on Health and Human Services and Judiciary for further legislative actions.
Presentation of the report has been scheduled to take place on the 17th of May, 2017.
