Organisers of the maiden U-14 Jandor Foundation Football Tournament, Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association says their aim is to discover new Obafemi Martins when the tournament ends Sunday March 18 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Secretary of the foremost grassroots football development body, Ganiyu Olawale stated this during the trophy presentation held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to him the football artistry displayed by the children in the championship that kicked off two weeks ago is an indication that talents who will be nurtured to become future stars will be discovered from the tournament.
“I’ must say that am overwhelmed with the talents we have seen since the commencement of the championship and one of the players have been invited to the Lagos State junior team and am convinced that the scouts who are monitoring the competition will discover new talents in the mold of Obafemi Martins, Taye Taiwo and Dele Adeleye who one time or the other participated in our competition.
Founder of the foundation, Olajide Adediran who was represented by Akin Yusuf noted that the foundation’s aim of supporting the needy made it partner with the association to give talented youths opportunity to exhibit their skills.
“Jandor Foundation is a non governmental organisation formed with the sole aim of fighting poverty and illiteracy in the society.
“We believe that sports is very important in our lives with many benefits as it helps us to train our body, develop it physically, mentally and discover our talents and that is why we decided to partner with the association to give kids opportunity of excelling in their God given talents”. he noted.
