INEC To Nigerians: Your Vote Is Your Power, Get Registered

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kaduna State, Prof. Antonia Okoosi-Simbine  has called on Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise effectively to avoid being disenfranchised in the forthcoming elections. 

The call was made during the flag-off of the continuous voters registration exercise in Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to her,  the event represents an important milestone in INEC’s resolve to deliver on its mandate of conducting free, fair and credible elections for Nigerians.

“The main objective of this event is to register new eligible voters and distribute permanent voters cards to others who had registered before but who could not collect thier PVCs.

“Related to this is the update of voters register to reflect transfers and deaths in accordance with the section 10 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, “Simbine said.

While speaking further, the commissioner said that the exercise requires the commission to update the voters register and make it available to every political party within 60 days after each year of registration.

According to her, “the CVR exercise will hold in all the 774 Local Government Areas of the federation and carry on till the conclusion of preparations for the general elections in 2019.

The Kaduna State INEC boss called on political parties, being the beneficiaries of the votes to encourage their supporters to come out enmass to register and collect thier pvcs.

“I also implore the media and civil society organizations to give wide enlightenment and publicity to the exercise to elicit wide participation, “the commissioner concluded.
