INEC Says Kaduna Fielding 38 Guber, 398 State Assembly Candidates

A total of 38 candidates will be on the ballot as the gubernatorial elections hold on Saturday Nay 9, 2019: in Kaduna.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  in Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ali Kaigama disclosed this while briefing the press at its state headquarters in Kaduna on Friday March 8.
According to him, there would be 398 candidates to contesting for the 34 state constituencies.
He assured that unlike the hitches experienced during the presidential/National Assembly selections, this time, they are ahead of the game and have perfected arrangements to ensure a timely commencement.
“We are ready for polls. All materials moved to 23 LGAs 80% of them have started moving to registration centres, so that as early as 7:30am our adhoc staff will be in their polling units for the voting,” he assured.
Speaking further, he said that they would be conducting the polls in Kaduna State with 34,000 adhoc staff to participate.
“Over 10,000 are corps members and others from tertiary institutions,” he said.

He stressed that everything would go on smoothly, while calking on eligible voters to come out enmass.
“We are ready and I am assuring Kaduna State people to come our ennass and vote for candidates of their choice. We have made a lot of corrections, all our senior staff are on field,” he said..
On issues experienced with card reader failure during the previous polls, he said that they have provided back up in case of such unfortunate circumstances.
As you are aware, card reader a problem. We deployed, 8,012 card readers. And back ups in each Registration Areas with a technical officer going round to ensure successful exercise.
” Once there is no card reader, no vote will count. Voting done without card reader is void. Card reader is mandatory. It is just to authenticate. Once your thumbprint has not been captured,. There is no vote for anywhere card reader not used,” he stressed
He appealed  to Kaduna State people as well as the contestants to conduct the self s in peaceful manner, assuring that most of their returning officers are highly credible.
“90% of them are  from ABU. We have very good returning officers and collation officers,” he assured.
He said that the procedure for election remains as was during presidential/National Assembly elections,
“The process remains like the previous election. Accreditation and voting at the same time. If you like,you can wait after voting at the polling centre for the result to be announced and posted. I am confident with report I have received from the 23 LGAs security is on ground,” he concluded.
