INEC Declares Buhari Winner Of 2019 Presidential Election

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the 2019 presidential elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu made the declaration at about 4:30am on Wednesday February 27, 2019.

“That Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

INEC said that Buhari polled 15,191, 847 votes to beat main contender, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was said to have garnered 11,262,978 votes.

The election was held in most parts of Nigeria on Saturday February 23, 2019 and on Sunday February 24 in some parts of the country, after it failed to hold on initially scheduled date of February 16.
